What was that movie ...

I know this has nothing to do with otr or rmt but I need to find out the name of a movie. The plot : WWII Itally the americans occupy. An american soldier spends time in a farm house with an itallian girl and kills her when he leaves. Sounds terrible but that is just the basic details.

I thought maybe A walk in the sun might be it, but my copy of the Variety Movie Guide gives a plot that doesn't sound like yours. (Yes, I actually had to go and look in a book -- the Internet is not all knowing.)
