I was wondering what all of you prefer with your RMT episodes, a straight program or one with the commercials and news included?

I enjoy the commercials and most importantly the news. I think it is an interesting sideline and view into the time period...

I strongly enjoy hearing the commercials and news. I enjoy hearing how the Watergate scandal played out at the time, for example. Hearing the news and commercials I think often gives you a better feeling of a time than does the regular programming. The commercials are also great for reminiscing; jingles can have a way of staying with you through the years.

I also enjoy the news and ads when included. It's a nice bonus to go with the show. Helps transport one back to the day.

I concur with both commercials and news. When looking for an episode I will look for one with a large file size hoping the extra bytes will be news and commericals.

I too really enjoy listening to the commercials; they are entertaining and make it feel more authentic.

I like both, especially the ones that I recorded.

Personally, I like the commercials, but when introducing someone to CBSRMT, I like to have them listen to an episode without the commercials.

Commercials and news around the show help to remind us of the cultural context that the story takes place in. It's similar to the way that whenever my sister reads a novel she checks the copyright date in the front to see when it was written, because it does make a difference -- is five dollars a lot of money or a small tip? Does crossing the country from ocean to ocean take a week or a day? To make sense of the attitudes in the story, you need to understand those things.

I guess I'll be the one contrarian. I don't really like listening to the commercials, and I normally fast forward through them. I will listen to the news though. I like to hear what was going on at the time.
