For those who are in the know, has there been any talk about an official, high quality, release of CBSRMT?
It would cool if the entire series could be found on iTunes or other simular services.

My understanding is that Himan Brown has no plans to release the shows because he thinks that one day the networks will want to market the show again, of course paying him big bucks to do so. They tried this in 1998 with the revival series where Himan's voice replaced E.G.'s and Tammy's but it didn't go over very well. Sadly, probably the only chance of an official release will be after Mr. Brown passes on and his family have control of his estate.

Do you think there could be a chance that satellite radio would ever be interested? or that he would negotiate with them? Sirius has an old radio classic channel that plays Twilight Zone, Philip Marlowe, and a lot of other old programs. I don't know if XM has one.

Himan Brown did a good job on his radio series, but not so good in legally keeping them from getting out (which is to our advantage). smile.gif
Many of the ones I've heard have superb audio quality. There are also quite a few of them that are fair to good, but with so many people already hearing these for free....where is the marketability?

I have to agree with you. I think that it's a limited market to begin with and the diehards are already getting them (Like we are). I wish he'd just release them.

Well, maybe Himan Brown has already released them. The original CBS Radio Mystery Theater series is for sale at OTR Cat --- 26 CDs for $130.

A few years ago, before I knew about the forum, we purchased a few disks like these. They were home recorded copies just like the ones available here. He's charging $130 for what's available for free here. I wish that were not the case but that is what I found.

I'm just glad I'm not permanently collecting these, and even if I did I wouldn't pay for them because of average quality on a number of episodes.
However many months it takes me to get through this series, it will clear up a lot of extra hard drive space on my computer. smile.gif

Jeff,
You're fortunate to have enough room to have all of these on your hard drive and still have room for everything else. They won't all fit on my hard drive at the same time. It's only 12 GB on this computer and 9 GB on the one in the back room! I'll have to do something about that, I guess, one of these days.

My Mac has an 80 GB hard drive, Wade, and with all those Mystery Theater shows (including the 1998 version) I still have over 39 GB free. With everything else, I was at about 61 GB to begin with.
As I listen to / delete about 5 episodes a day, I'm gradually building that up again....

I have all of the programs backed up on DVD's and CD's. I only have a 32 gig hard drive in my laptop but it is failing... I do have a Maxtor 300 gig and a Maxtor 100 gig external hard drive connected to it and my new laptop will have 240 gigs of storage on board. I have ordered it already. That will make the storage 640 gigs on that machine and add the 80 gig iPod which is usually connected and that gets it over 700 gigs.
I saw a sales circular for Staples in last Sunday's paper and they were advertising a 160 gig (I believe it was) external hard drive, about palm-sized, for $69 or $79.
I also noticed that Sam's Club is now selling external hard drives for a good price - ranging from 40 to 250 gigs last time I was there a couple of weeks ago.
Very affordable I think.

I wouldn't pay for them either but I would pay for bandwidth to download them.
As far as quality, as long as they are "listenable", that is good enough for me.
I grew up listening to an old AM radio that didn't exactly sound perfect so listening to them recorded from the radio is the norm for me,.
To have a studio-quality recording would indeed be nice, but it would not have the same feel as the way I listened when I was younger.
This is part of the reason why I like to have the episodes complete with commercials.
It's just like being back in the 1970's and I like that.
I would like to have the best-quality recordings off the air as possible. That's why I support teaming up with other people to ensure that we all have the best recordings possible.

I'm neither depraved or deprived. If I wanted to save these I would. And in a way I have....I've kept them in my MediaMax account for future trading purposes in exchange for other radio and TV series. :)
