Hey gang! I have to say, that I listen to these episodes all the time!
But my most favorite place is - in bed! Yep, just like when I was a kid
listening on the radio.
I use my iPod to keep a healthy selection of episodes, and as I go to
bed, I put one of the headphone "earbuds" into the ear I don't lay on
and listen away!
It's great fun. My wife thinks I'm whacky. Everytime she hears the door
creaking at the start of the show, she sits up a bit and says, "Was that
the baby? (our daughter!)"
Are the any other iPod people around? I haven't seen much word.
Best wishes ~ SB
PS - My iPod allows me to listen in my car, at my computer, through our
regular stereo, and on the go if I'm walking. Highly recommended!

Sonnie,
I'm envious! NYROB has the newest model and he highly recommends it, as well.

No iPod here, but my house is stocked with other Mac products
I've recently added an iMac to the master bedroom so I can play episodes over my home network from the PC file server in the basement. I have a portable MP3 CD player that works for walking and in the car.

I use my Rio Sport MP3 player...it's small enuf to fit in the palm of my hand so I sleep with it under my pillow, one earplug in and my spouse prefers it over the disc man I used to keep under my pillow (that often slipped off the bed in the middle of the night as I moved around and crashed to the floor!) It holds enough episodes to keep me listening until I fall asleep. Since picking up the habit of listenting to the radio as a kid, I now find it really hard to go to sleep if I'm in a totally silent room. I need my CBSRMT the way some people need a warm glass of milk or a dull book!

Brian,
Does your mp3 player play all night or does it shut off after the playlist is complete?

The player goes through the whole play list and then goes into a low-power sleep mode. I often wake up in the middle of the night and push play so I can listen some more to help me get back to sleep.

I must agree that the iPod has been great for my OTR addiction. I have a 30gb iPod with every episode loaded, along with a bunch of other shows. I listen every night with the iPod plugged into external speakers.
The wife gets a bit beaten down on the weeks I am on a "Have Gun Will Travel' Kick. The theme song is a bit tough to take over and over
I bought an vintage radio cabinet and am planning on mounting an older iPod inside for the cool effect.

That sounds like a very cool idea - vintage look with the convenience, speed and quality of the present.

This thread is hilarious. I also listen to a radio show on my MP3 player everynight as I am going to sleep. The only "bad" thning about listening to CBSRMT is that the episodes are an hour long, and I seldom last through the whole thing. I use a Rio Sport player, and it will hold around 12 episodes of CBSRMT, or around 30 thirty-minute shows such as Suspense, Escape, Etc.

I myself have a Panasonic Mini-CD MP3 player that I use. Each mini-CD holds about 19 episodes, and it is very samll and portable. Still, I only listen in bed. I think it wouldn't do to listen to them anywhere else.

I just got a small mp3 player. It is great to listen when I'm biking or just driving somewhere when there is nothing better to listen to on the radio. Some nights I will also listen to the programs in bed before going to sleep. I thing the mp3 players are great.

It is so strange how much we all have in comman. I too listen to CBSRMT on my MP3 player (Nomad IIc) at night just as I did as a kid. I am a musician and when I am on the road I take my MP3 player full of CBSRMT to hotels to help me sleep. I have to have them both at home and on the road or I will be up all night.

MHIGLEY,
I can certainly relate to the tranquilizer effect of the CBSRMT. It's weird because I can be riveted by a program and still fall asleep. I'm at the point now that I need my nightly fix!

Howdy,
I completely agree with iPod being the greatest. I have tried roughly 4 mp3 players (and returned them all), because they were all missing something. I had been waiting for the iPod to be available locally and about 2 months ago I finally got one. It is the first time that a "gadget" has completely exceeded my expectations. I spend a big chunk of my budget (meager student budget) on gadgets, and the iPod just keeps on surprising me. Love it.
If anyone is wondering what mp3 player to get, the iPod is the way to go hands down.

Matt

I use the RCA model 1071. I usually don't like RCA (Thompson) products. But, the 1071 is one of the best MP3 players in its class. It is VERY small, yet holds 256mb (with optional flash memory, 128mb without).
I use a cassette adapter in my truck to listen to my MP3 player. I play CBSRMT and other shows. I also record talk radio shows (from cities I used to live in) and listen to them while I walk or work the next day.
MP3 is opening up all kinds of new things. It is amazing!!!
SPECIAL THANKS: Thanks to Vince (VGARCI) for all the help with getting setup to download the CBSRMT program. Thanks to Charlie for creating this site and bringing CBSRMT back to life!!!

Lee,
I've got the RCA (Thompson) RD1070 and for an inexpensive little unit, it's been great. I still hope to get an IPOD so if any of my family members are reading these posts, remember that my 40th birthday is approaching and there's only 30 shopping days left!

Okay, I'm not against MACs (except for that 1 button mouse!), but I'd have to say that the best mp3 player by far is the Creative Nomad Jukebox. I have the 20 GB version with a multitude of audiobooks (including CBSRMT) and music loaded. The player allows me to pause in the middle of an episode, create playlists, and listen in my car with the use if an adapter. I've had this unit for ages and it works perfectly. The sound quality is flawless. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade to the Zen, another Creative model similar in appearance to the iPod.

Oh yes... I also listen to tales of the macabre at night while curled up in bed. There is nothing better

Vinpri,
Tell me more about the car adapter. How does it work and what does it take? Tapeplayer adapter?

Hi Vince,
The car adapter I bought is a Philips CD to Cassette Adapter Kit. It uses a standard cassette player, and although made specifically for CD players, works extremely well with my mp3 player. The really neat thing about this brand is that it contains a little compartment with different sizes of plugs. That was a relief because I was initially worried that it would not fit the DC output jack on my player. I simply pop the fake cassette into my car cassette player, the other end to the audio outlet on the mp3 player, plug in the mp3 player, power on the radio, and turn the mp3 player on. Here is a link to the one I bought: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?cat=3983&dept=3944&product_id=2197594&path=0%3A3944%3A3983%3A4534
If the link doesn't work, go to www.walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com) and do a search for car adapter. It costs about $20.
