Looking for Specific RMT Episode

My wife has been telling me about a specific RMT episode that she remembers as a child. I believe it was something about a man in prison who befriends a rat/mouse and shares his bread with it.

Any help would be appreciated and would be a wonderful to suprise my wife and have her listen to it again (~25 years later). Thanks.

The episode you are looking for is episode #167 "The Black Room" and it originally aired October 29, 1974.

There is a short story that is a good companion to THe Black Room episode that we use in our short story unit. I can't recal the author at the moment, but the title is called "The Side Bet" about a man who is stranded on a tiny island with no food supply... carefully rationing out his provisions, he is shocked to find his stash almost depleated one morning. He then notices a rat, apparently the only other living creature on this rocky island. The side bet he makes with his nemesis is that the winner will eat the loser.

Another short story, I believe this one is Anton Checkov, is called "The Bet" and has to do with a couple of men making a bet on deprivation of human contact. One bts the other that he will not be able to live for one year completely apart from human contact. The better ups the ante and says he can survive 10 years in the same condition.

We use those two short stories and Tbe Black Room CBSRMT episode to do a comparison of character and plot development. The kids love it (well, as much as grade 8 kids love any school work smile.gif
