I have thought of this show alot of times over the last 21 years.Brought it up to my dad several times as we have sat back and talk about the good old days.I look at my 8 year old son and it takes me back to 1976 when I was 8 myself.A warm spring south Alabama night laying across the foot of my parents bed with only one window open in the bedroom to get any kind of a breeze.Quietly waiting for RMT to come on. The door creaking and the sound of E.G. Marshall's voice was all I ever needed to convince me,I no longer needed to be at the foot of the bed.I don't know what came over me to look for this site tonight, but I'm sure glad I did.I think this a fantastic site and I can't wait to download some of the shows.THANKS.

Hi everybody,
I'm Walt. I used to listen to the show on WRAL radio from Raleigh, NC. It came on at 10 or 11pm. I've set up a streamload account using 'walterk9' as my user name. Can you really send every episode through streamload? Seems amazing!
This forum seems friendly. I look forward to discussing episodes with everyone!
Thanks!

I was excited when I found this site! Really cool that you've taken the time to set up all of this.

I remember many school nights where I stayed up (unknown to my parents) to listen to this show. Over time I've collected a few OTR show but always wanted CBSRMT.

This is my first posting on any internet forum.

My story is similar to many I have read.

I grew up with parents that believed in rules. One of
their favorite rules was a 9pm bedtime. In order to
prevent me from getting out of bed for 25 different
trips to the rest room, or kitchen to get something to
drink (which of course promoted more trips to the rest room),
They consented to allow me to listen to the radio for one
hour where I could listen to either Dodger baseball or Radio Mystery
Theater. Depending on the Dodgers opponent, etc., I would
check in with the game during RMT commercials or after the show
ended.

What began as a small victory over the parental tyrants and their
strict curfew, became one of the most special memories from
my childhood.

I cannot count how many times I have told my kids about
RMT and how important it was to me. I would turn to the
radio station I listened to growing up. They played old time
radio shows, but it wasn't the same.

About three weeks ago with no fore thought I googled Radio Mystery
Theater -- I couldn't believe that episodes were available to be
listened to immediately. I have listened every day since and I am
so grateful for the chance to return to a special part of my childhood.

Thank you - I think it is very cool that there are others out there
that share similar memories of RMT as well as those that are enjoying it today.

First off, thanks a million Charlie for establishing this forum. I'm another of those old RMT fans that grew up listening. I used to fall asleep nearly every night listening (they came on at 9pm in Charlotte) - sadly missing many an ending - but loving the feeling of being told a bedtime story to drift off with.

Now I can start catching up on the endings I missed!

Hello folks!

I loved to listen to EG Marshall in the car as my wife and I were traveling at night enroute to Kentucky from our home in Texas. Our daughter would always refer to the program as squeaky theater.

I have just joined the group and have an introductory account on the Soundstream site.

By the way, was Sherlock Holmes featured on many of the broadcasts? I have heard yes but I do not remember hearing any. I would love to hear that on the radio again....

Thanks to all for managing such a wonderful nostalgia generator and also a real quality website. Hope to listen to the squeaky door again soon!

As a teenager, I listened to CBSRMT almost every night. I can still remember falling asleep to the sound of EG Marshall's voice. And only about half the time, making it through the entire episode.

Recently, I was trying to find some information on Wells' War of the Worlds for my daughter and I stumbled on a refernce to CBSRMT. I was surprised to see how much was on the internet. And I have got my son interested in listening. And I finding this site was simply amazing.

If you could send me the archives, I would greatly appreciate it! My Streamload account name is mbond2000.

Wow. I used to listen to CBSRMT religiously every Monday night, during our car-pool rides home from our Monday night boy-scout meetings. WCCO 830 in Minneapolis, approximately 1975-1979.

I would race into the house to listen to the rest of the episodes. Some of them gave me nightmares.

I have a new streamload account - "caseybea". Can I get the all of the episides pushed to my account? [b:abef756717]I can hardly wait to start burning[/b:abef756717].

This is VERY exciting!!

I posted a short topic in the general forum- but will add a more detailed one here.

First, I am thrilled to see this site- VERY cool.

I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Monday nights, I went to Boy- Scout meetings. We carpooled.

On our way home, we listened to WCCO 830 and CBSRMT. I can still remember the eerie intro music to this day. Most of the time, we arrived home before the episode airing was over; I would DASH into the house and up to my room to listen to the remainder of the episide. I still own the old AM-only clock-radio I listened to. Some of the better episodes caused my mild nightmares. They were indeed gripping.

I ended up discovering this site in a roundabout way... I often listen to public radio (WHAD 90.7 in Milwaukee), and thoroughly enjoy shows like "Car Talk", "A Prairie Home Companion", "Zorba Pasteur on your health" and so on. I purchased a TV/FM recorded (PVR) care to start recording those shows every Saturday.

The recent purchase and setup of all that suddenly got me thinking, "gee, it would be real cool to listen to those CBSRMT shows again, and I enjoyed as a kid....".

Voila. And so I found this. Thanks for the help. Streamload acct = caseybea. I look forward to filling up my hard drive :D

Just joined in. I am an avid OTR collector, and psyched to stumble accross this group. Of all the OTR I collect CMSRMT is my favorite. The length is just long enough to be meaty, and the writing was always great.

I remember being glued to the radio when I was young listening to RMT and Adventure theater on WOR out of New York (I think it was WOR).

I look forward to trading. I only have a freeloader account at this point, but will likely upgrade.

I have a collection of the CBSRMT that I downloaded a few years back from cbsrmt.org which no longer operates. I do not have an index but will put one together. I would like to finalize my collection and upgrade any poor recordings I have. I also have none of the Adventure theater, and would love to get them as well.

Hi everyone. I'm Clem. I've been lurking around for a few months checking out the site and I figured it's time to register. I'm not a frequent poster, but I do enjoy reading what others say. And who knows, if work ever settles down, I may post more often.

Suffice to say, this is a great site that you have created. I was about 14 when I first started listening to CBSRMT. I would pick it up on WWSW in Pittsburgh at night. But reception was questionable, and some nights, the reception was so spotty that I couldn't even follow the story.

Then, I discovered that WKBN in Salem, Ohio picked up the show, and it was perfect because it came in very clear and was broadcast an hour earlier at 10:07 (right at bedtime!) and I could USUALLY stay awake for the whole episode. This was right around the time that I got my new General Electric digital clock-radio (about $50 back then!), with the mechanical drive that would flip the numbers over minute by minute. Nothing better than setting the sleep-timer for 60 minutes, and listening to E.G. Marshall in the glow of "digitally-accurate time"... LOL!

Anyway, thanks again for hosting the great site.

I just realized in all of this- that my passion for this show is starting to get expensive...!

First... I am going to need to upgrade my hard drive. I need room for all the extra data, AND the ability to keep doing my backups.....

Next... The only time (best time, of course!) to LISTEN to over a thousand episodes is to upgrade my car's stereo CD player to a CD/MP3 player. It's either that (using 30 CD's, loaded with MP3's), or burning 1,399 audio CD's. More $$$$

BUT.... I couldn't be happier. If I listen to a single episode in the car per day, I'll be happily entertained for the next 4 years.

WOW!

Vince,

Thanks for posting the files to me. I will get years of enjoyment from them.

I have been overseas working for a couple of years now, but with the internet, I don't feel that far from home. I can browse my local paper back home, e-mail family and listen to my favorite radio stations.

And with a site like this, I could be down the street or across the ocean, and it is pretty much the same. That is a great thing.

Muchas Gracias!

Thomas Henry

Hello all,

I feel like I'm dreaming and have gone to heaven! I can't believe I've stumbled across this Web site with all of its resources. For the past twenty-five years I have owned less than ten CRMT tapes which I've listened to over and over. Rather unbelievably, I have never grown tired of those, listening to at least one every night before bed for a couple decades now. I had just always assumed that that would be the end of it and I would never find any more, hence my first sentence.

My story is probably much the same as everyone elses. I stumbled across CRMT on WCCO radio out of the Twin Cities, Minnesota, back around 1977 or so. I recorded a few using a cheesy, battery operated Panasonic cassette recorder, and those are the ones which have been my companions for years.

I orignally fell in with the show because of my interest in Sherlock Holmes. Even in those early days I had a fairly large collection of old SH radio shows, mostly on LPs, and an enormous book collection of the same. So, when CRMT ran a couple plays with Kevin McCarthy, I was hooked. As a bit of a Sherlock Holmes purist, I wasn't too keen on the way Watson was played; he sounded like he was in the last stages of senile dementia! But McCarthy as Holmes was quite good. And the supporting actors, with authentic British accents, were out of this world. For example, the convict in "The Gloria Scott," and the coroner in "The Boscombe Pool Mystery" (Doyle called it the "Boscombe Valley Mystery") had superior voices.

I have many pleasant memories from college days of practicing stage make-up in my room while listening to the plays. Don't ask me why that sticks, but I can recall sitting in front of the mirror trying this and that, while playing the tapes on that cheapo Panasonic. Those were the good old days!

But my all time favorite was and continues to be "The Assassination," based on Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar." The cast was magnificent, and Dryden as Brutus was fantastic. One would think that altering Shakespeare's poetic language might spoil things, but as the cast, scriptwriter and director showed here, that wasn't the case at all. This is an extremely well done production and makes Shakespeare accessible to everyone. I used to lie in bed listening to it, imagining some burly truck driver driving down the freeway tuning in and getting captivated---a new convert to the Bard.

I'm envious of the people here who have obtained complete collections. As an out-of-work mathematics professor who's been living on credit cards for the past year, the Streamload account is not in my budget just now. But I have downloaded a few of the "Mystery of the Week" shows (I hope that's okay), and they have really made my day! You can't imagine what it's like (maybe you can!) to be listening to a new mystery after nearly twenty-five years of the same half-dozen or so!

Finally, I loved E. G. Marshall as the host. He always came across as friendly, literate and interesting. He's a bit of a local hero, too, having been born and raised in this part of southern Minnesota.

Keep up the good work!

Thomas Henry

I discovered you all last night and as I mentioned in the files request area, I was thrilled to find you. I was born in 1963 and grew up listening to CBSRMT. It started at 10:06 here and I can remember turning out the lamp at my bedside and waiting for the digital clock tab to flip and for the door to start creaking. As others have mentioned I frequently fell asleep during episodes but loved every one. I guess it always felt like having someone read you a bedtime story, which I am convinced remains one of life's greatest pleasures. Oddly, I never knew whether the show was an Old Time radio show being rerun or whether it was in current production at the time. It had an odd timeless quality to it. Further, I never really talked to other people about it. It felt a little like a secret. I never really imagined other people listening in! How wonderful to find that you all were!
Yours,
Kirk

Thanks for the suggestion, Brian. I went ahead and got the free account as you recommended. The user name is: THenry.

As I understand the rules, I'll only have access to files less than 10Meg in size, but I gather some of the CRMT shows fit that category.

And here's a newbie question: Does anybody know the total file size of all 1299 .mp3 files? I estimate it must be on the order of 13,000 megabytes, obviously, but am curious what a more accurate count might show. And that must be around 20 CD's if left in .mp3 format, right?

Thanks again; I'm having a real riot tucking in here, and am anxious to go over the log list of all the programs tonight.

Hello Vgarci,

Thanks for the numbers; it helps put it all in perspective.

And my arithmetic skills have always been punk, so no umbrage is taken on this end! Fortunately for me, there's an awful lot of mathematics that doesn't depend on good numerical skills---at least that's my excuse for messing things up all the time.

I want to thank you all again for making me feel welcome and opening up a whole new world of radio listening. As I said in my first post, I really thought I would never hear any other CRMTs again---this is unbelievable!

Thomas, see the previous topic in this forum. I just joined-- and I hail from Minneapolis. 'CCO was the place to be, I guess!

I only caught these once a week. I don't ever remember these being aired nightly- wow! If I only knew..... (I was what, 15 years old and didn't pay attention).

WELCOME!

Yes, re-hearing these episodes after all that time is nothing short of amazing. And I too loved EG Marshall as the host. I liked his voice, and yes, his apparent "radio intelligence". He was quite effective at talking at the right level for all listeners-- adults and kids alike. That's a great skill to posess.

Welcome Kirk. I was born in 1963 too and as I have said before, it seems that folks our age (at the time) were the primary listeners. At least we are the ones thinking most about the program now.

I guess I never really knew at the time whether or not the program was old or not, or how long it had been on the air. I remember wondering that when I starting looking for information on the Internet as well.

Interestingly, I remember the show's debut being advertised extensively in the fall of 1973. The Reds were in a penant race (those were the days!) and I was listening to the AM radio nightly to follow the Big Red Machine.

I also remember the commercials for the show being run during Reds games where they'd play a clip.

As I said, I'm pretty sure it was Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Joe Morgan that got me hooked on these shows.

Howdy! Great to meet fellow fans of the series. I spent many hours glued to the AM radio listening to these episodes.. recall sitting on a hill in North Jersey on the sid eof the road in his car parked on the shoulder waiting for one of them to end because we were driving AWAY from WOR signal and about to lose it. Must have sat there for 15 minutes with trafffic wizzing by on the turnpike just to finish the program.

Have 2 prized cassettes that I occasionally replay to "relive"the feeling of a pre playstation, toys need batteries, no imagination era. Am anxious to introduce my son to the genre as my Dad did for me , way to long ago.

Welcome.

You need to sign up for a Streamload account and we'll send you the entire run of the series.

If you listened to the show in 1974, you're in for a treat as a former listener to WOR. There many shows in that season that were recorded from WOR with full commercials (Remember Suburban Savings & Loan in North Jersey or Shop Rite Supermarkets) and Fulton Lewis commentaries on Watergate.

I catalogue all these in my Listening Log for you to consult.

Hello,

I thought I would introduce myself.

My sister got me hooked on these shows and I listened every night without fail. I remember one night we were having a particularly scary thunderstorm (I was in elementary school when I started listening), and the lights went out and stayed out until about 3:30 AM. I awoke to the wind and to my radio coming back on, and to my surprise and relief, Sears RMT was playing a story. It calmed me sufficiently so that I was able to fall asleep again before 4:30 AM. What comfort I found in listening to the opening of each show! I am anxious to relive these past experiences.

I would often volunteer to go to bed, even when my parents would have allowed me to stay up late, just to listen to these shows.

I am astounded by the number of people who listened to the same shows I listened to so many years ago. I am also thankful for the broad interest which brought about this great website.

I say thank you to the creators.

Hi Richard,

[quote:4b675f1dde="rchogan42"]grew up listening to CBSRMT on WCCO 830AM... Minneapolis, MN at 9:07 each nite after Honest to Goodness. I kinda got frustrated in the summer months as the Twins were playing and then it would be on at 11 or so when it would play... [/quote:4b675f1dde]

Arghhh...I had almost forgotten that foul experience! I used to go apoplectic when turning on the radio and finding out that baseball had pre-empted the "real" radio experience.

Another thing that used to irk me: every once in a while one of the WCCO announcers would inject what he thought was a cute comment during the intro. I have one in my collection where this character is screaming, "Hey you in there, open up, your door knocker has fallen off." And then the squeaking door would happen. I was so peeved at the time I wanted to hop in the car and drive to the Cities just to give the guy a knuckle sandwich. How dare he take our religion so lightly!

Best wishes,

Thomas Henry

:!: RMT :!: So glad to find you all. Wish I had a story to tell about late night listening under cover of darkness way back when...., but I only hooked into Radio Mystery Theater recently via the Internet, on Live365.com...which by the way has two very good stations that play RMT 24/7...but I enjoy the stories and production so much that I plan to go for the long haul and listen to all 1399 shows...

I use a I-River mp3 player and dump 6 shows at a time on it to listen to while driving. Also storing zipped folders of episodes to CD-RW...

"Until next time..."

Joined forum just now. Recorded about 50 CBSRMT's back in about 75-77.

Was fortuanate to have downloaded around 1400 episodes from Bob Cook's site before it went away.

I can arrange to make available a limited number of episodes to those who need them. At the present time I use KaZaa Lite. So far as I know, there's no RIAA-style enforcement of copyright with respect to CBSRMT's.

Other copyrighted material will NOT be shared.

You may e-mail me direct with requests and I can make episodes available for download most evenings between 7:00 and 10:00 PM Central time.

Well, let me just say hi to all.

I was a junior in high school when I tuned into the "creaking door" of Mystery Theater. I'd always been fascinated with radio (ever since i was a tyke) and eventually made it my profession (radio engineer in Washington DC)

Many is the time that I would stay awake at night listening in the dark to the show. College came in '75 and with it, my time listening slackened off but I always tried to tune in when I could.

In 1982, I was working at a radio station in Hopewell Virginia and would record the CBSRMT feed as it came down the line. We did not broadcast it, but I would take the tape and rerecord it onto cassette. When CBSRMT ended, there ended my affair with radio drama, or so I thought. In 1997 I got back into the hobby and started collecting shows...Mystery Theater was one I eagerly sought. Fred Gwynne, Evie Juster, Mandel Kramer, Howard DaSilva became my favorite performers.

I've collected many shows since and one of my favorite things is making copies of my collection to give to my family....my parents relive Lum and Abner, Amos and Andy, Jack Benny...

My sisters kids are falling in love with it to...the comedies and my oldest nephew the adventure shows.

Radio is a true pleasure, a theater of the mind. I just wish that we in the US had done more to keep it alive as Canada and Britian did.

Thats enough for now I think smile.gif take care everyone, good listening

Hello!

My name is Michael. I'm 36 and grew up in central Illinois listening to Radio Mystery Theater via KMOX out of St. Louis as well as the Saturday Morning Comedy Show. I found out years later that my now wife also grew up listening to Mystery Theater as a kid too. We now live in Colorado and go to sleep almost every night listening to old-time radio programs.

A few weeks ago I became nostalgic and remembered the Mystery Theater and put it in as a search query through Google and found this and other interesting forums. I'm looking forward to adding a few Mystery Theater programs to our OTR collection.

It's great to find others with similar interests! :D

Hya, all.

Just registered for this forum !
My name is Rob, and i live in Mechelen, Belgium.
Became interested in radio-mystery's in the early 80's,
when they were aired on the AFN, wich we can receive
here in Belgium... I remember listening to those stories
almost every night, with a small transistor receiver hidden
in my pillow.

About 2 years ago, i came across a website about the Old
Time Radio shows, and i became instantly interested.

Right now i have over 500 OTR shows, from different series.

That's about all i can say for myself at the moment, so let me
stop this message by wishing everyone here the very best for
the upcoming year, and may the OTR be with us !

Hello and Happy New Year,

I first heard CBSRMT when I was in the 8th grade. I think that this program is what lead to my interest in Old Time Radio. I have collected a few otr shows over the years but expense and storage were always a problem. Of course this has completely changed with the expanse of the internet and the development of the mp3 format.

Anyway, I downloaded a few of RMT shows that you offer, and it made me discover one interesting point. While I greatly enjoy otr and will continue to collect shows, it's CBSRMT that gives me that warm happy connected feeling. I was born to late to be able to remeber and create personal childhood memories of otr. CBSRMT takes me back to my childhood and what at the tme appeared to be a much simpler era.

Hope that doesn't sound to sappy.

I'd like to be able to download the series from someone, and to start listening to the shows again. Especially the shows whose ending I missed because I fell asleep while listening to them.

I have been a fan of "OTR" for some time now, but to be honest I had never bumped into the CBS Radio Mystery Theater stuff much. I am hoping to increase my exposure (and collection) by joining in the forums here. I think I'll start with the show of the week forum.

I don't have a huge collection of files, but I am interested in trading. That means I have a max storage of 3,000 MB and 1,000 MB download per/mo. Welcome subchefnw! How cool that you and your shipmates were listening to CBSRMT tapes. I think that's great. There are lots of full sets out there in MP3 format. Those can be turned into tapes or left as-is and played in the right kind of MP3 players (some don't work well with old time radio recordings--something about low bit rate, I think).

vgarci
January 27th, 2004, 03:48 AM

The storage you note is really "unique" storage. Because we share so many files, the 3GB is more than you will probably ever need. I've never even touched my allotment. I'd be glad to ship some files.

Doc Holaday
January 27th, 2004, 02:01 PM
I got all the files you (vgarci) sent. Fantastic. Thank you. I assume they are things "out there" on streamload that will be there for some time? I am asking because I obviously can't download them all in one month, though it's pretty clear to me that I am soon going to step up to the 10,000 mb a month download level.

Does unique storage mean things that I might put up that are "private" (not sharable?) I can see why you might never touch this. If I put something up it will definitely be to share.

I discovered the hard way that you can't just listen to something without it counting against your download allotment.

vgarci
January 28th, 2004, 04:28 AM
Doc,
The files should be on streamload for an indefinite time but that doesn't mean there aren't problems from time to time. I don't think unique storage implies you can't share them but the truth is, I have many, many gigs of files on streamload and none of them count against my unique storage.

Doc Holaday
January 28th, 2004, 01:18 PM
Yes, I am finally getting the grasp of all the Streamload terms and features. I found a good help file on their site that helps explain everything. As I type I have "Get Right" software downloading the GM/CBS Radio Adventure Theater stuff for me. It's awesome.

Doc Holaday

I just started using Streamload a couple of days ago. They actually have a pretty good help file that documents the differences, for instance, between your "Unique" and "Unlimited" file storage areas. I haven't figured out (haven't tried) yet how to send file links, but I assume that is pretty easy as well. Since I have just been through the honeymoon myself, please email me if you have questions about how things work and I will try to explain it or figure it out for/with you.

Found this site about a month ago and am looking forward to being an active participant here on this board. A little history about me...I'm in the US Army (currently a member of the Special Forces) and have served for well over 21 years. Due to some very serious injuries, I'm now looking at a medical discharge and will probably have a lot of time on my hands in the very near future. That's why I elected to sign up now and join all of you.

I started listening to the CBS RMT back in 1976 on WFAA newstalk radio in Dallas, Texas. I was immediately hooked on the programming and have become an avid fan ever since. There were a lot of shows that I listened to back in 1977 that have a lot of sentimental value to me and I hope to start a collection while contributing here. I haven't opened a streamload account yet but will look into it once I'm settled in. One particular tidbit that I'm interested in getting isn't a show itself, but rather one that had a commercial in it back in the Summer of 1977 that had been created by the US Army. It was a cute little jingle that began: "Hey Sergeant...where are we walking? I can't understand a word you're talking..."

It stuck with me and probably is one of the reasons of where I am today. Like I said, sentimental stuff.

Thanks for allowing me to be a member here,

Thanks to all for the welcome...

Wow! I spent most of yesterday and a bit of today just reading a lot of your insightful posts. It's truly a wonderful feeling in knowing that there are many fans of this radio program besides myself that are dedicated as you all seem to be.

I plan on holding off getting a steamload account until I can dedicate more time to it. In the meantime, Vince, if it's not too much trouble, I noticed in your log a couple of programs that may contain the Army commercial that I was referring to. The first is 0195 "The Reluctant Killer". I noticed that it was taped from the radio station KRLD which is located in Dallas, TX. The second show is 0198 "The Murders In The Rue Morgue".

Each of these have a commercial for the Army in it but I'm not sure if it's the same one since both were aired in 1975. The one that I listened to was in 1977 but who knows? I might get lucky in hoping that it's the same one.

If it's possible can you host either one of these so I can give it a try? I'd greatly appreciate it and look forward to contributing for the next SotW.

Thanks,

Brian,

That is one incredible log that you have created. I don't know where you found the time to do it but it's definitely a work of art. Very useful for referencing. If those two shows that Vince has doesn't have the Army commercial in it, then I think one of your shows might be the one that I'm looking for. It's 0575 "Tomorrow's Murder". In it, you list the Army recruiting commercial and it was aired in December, 1976. I had to go through 17 pages of your log in searching but I finally think that I struck gold. 8)

Is it possible that you could host this one for me?

That was it Vince! It was the one in "Tomorrow's Murder". Thanks so much...seriously. I listened to it for about five times straight before I brought my son in to hear it. I then sat him down and explained that when I was younger than he is now, I listened to this song that put me on the pathway towards an Army career.

After he heard it, he looked up at me and asked, [i:4b2defbaea][b:4b2defbaea]"So I guess that I owe my life to this song..."[/b:4b2defbaea][/i:4b2defbaea]

Silenced passed between us for about a minute.

[b:4b2defbaea][i:4b2defbaea]"Yes...yes, I guess you could say that,"[/i:4b2defbaea][/b:4b2defbaea] was my only response.

Gotta tell ya...the kid's pretty deep...

Thanks. I fine time because my house is falling down around me (it's ard to tell because I haven't cleaned since Clinton was President), I neglect my kids and quit my job.

Actually, I have an MP3 player I carry with me when I'm doing housework. I watch very little television, so I have time to read (my other obsession) and listen to CBSRMT.

Ah, yes, something new. Listened to the CBSRMT in the 70's in South Bend, Indiana. I remember how novel it seemed to have radio shows the way my parents did before television. Am trying to figure out how to (properly, of course) request a download of Hickory Dickory Doom (2/26/79) through Streamload (ID is Tom_Crawford), to which I am also new.

Charlie, you've been a great resource so far, THANK YOU!

Sawadee khrup, Greetings from Thailand!

Champagne Charlie's the name, and teaching's my game. I'm an "original" CBSRMT listener from the bell-bottom days. Like a lot of people, I never forgot about CBSRMT and I was delighted to re-discover the classic shows via file trading. And, I'm amazed to see that the show is so widely appreciated and deeply loved after all these years. Awesome forum and web site, BTW.

Before I moved to Thailand I burned my almost complete collection of shows on CD. Sadly, in the process of getting settled over here I've managed to lose over half my collection of CDs. I'm currently trying to figure out the best way of restoring my lost collection.

I can only access broadband on weekends. I haven't checked out streamload yet, and I'm not sure how it works. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance, and if ya'll have any questions about Thailand give me a holler.

vgarci,
I came to Thailand as a tourist and decided I wanted to stay. Sold everything, quit the job and came here to teach English. I love it although I do miss easy broadband access. I live in a small coastal town that has almost every western convenience you might want except good internet.

I've been wanting to use CBSRMT in the classroom. It's interesting that the Thais widely believe in the existence of ghosts and the spirit world in general. I think they might enjoy the show, providing they don't get too scared!

Hi,

My name is Jeff I used to listen to RMT and other OTR programs growing up in hte 70's. I never had the tapes to record the programs at the time, but with the proliferation of MP3s I have found a renewed interest. I am particulary found of the CBS series because they were so well made and I was able to listen to them first run.

I look forward to sharing a common interest with the group.

Hi my name is Sue. I am 37 and married with a 6 year old son. I remember listening to RMT when I was a child. My sister and me would hop into bed and turn on the radio and listen to the show before bedtime. Sometimes I would get scared but that was the thrill of it. My sister liked to scare me too.

I forgot about RMT until a few years ago when I was looking for old radio programs and I remembered this. I always thought Vincent Price narrated it but after listening to a few of the shows, the memories flooded back to me.

I hope to be able to download the shows to listen to and get my son interested also. I am an avid audio book listener and think this would be great to listen to in the car.

Thanks!

Hi All,

My name is Steve. Growing up in Wyoming I was unable to find CBS Radio Mystery Theater on any of our radio stations (imagine life with out it :( ). Every trip to visit my grandparents in Utah was a real treat for me because I got to listen to cbsrmt coming, going and every night while I was there! Over the years I managed to hear most of the episodes and loved every one! A couple years ago I had a decent collect of episodes but lost all in a hard drive crash. Lately I have been thinking once again of obtaining these priceless reminders of my childhood. I am excited to be part of this list and to chat with people that enjoyed these programs as much as I did. I hope some of you out there can help in my quest to regain these file. I have opened a Steamload account as it seem like that is what most member of the list are using. If any one can help me start my new collect I would love to start listening to these classics once again.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello

My name is Ed. I live in Central Texas. I've been collecting OTR for a couple of years. When I was a boy, my brother received a recording of 1930's broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" by the Mercury Theater and Orson Welles. We enjoyed it very much. As an adult, I've enjoyed some of the other Mercury Theater/Campbells Playhouse productions from that time. I also enjoy old B&W movies. "The Third Man", which also stars Orson Welles, is one of many of my favorites. Welles went on to make "The Third Man: The Lives of Harry Lime", a 52 episode weekly radio series which I found very interesting. This then led me to "The Shadow" and Sherlock Holmes programs and to CBSRMT. I had no idea there is so much material.

I've set up an account with streamload as [b:8f64eb072b]user usa1776a[/b:8f64eb072b]. Please make what you have available. I appreciate what you are doing. I'm sure it brings many hours of pleasure to alot of folks, as OTR has for me.

Thanks in advance

Awfully glad to have found this place and some like-minded fans.

I was born too late to enjoy the golden age of radio, but I'm happy to find that such a good program was produced even at the height of TV's dominance. I only discovered this program recently, but it's a great thing to listen to on the commute and at home.

Also, I'm thoroughly sick of TV and I hope the XM radio blossoms and brings us a new golden age.

Hello every one

A bit of info on myself:
My name is Marty and grew up in Detroit Michigan... In 1982 I joined the USAF that I am still a part of and due to retire after 24 years active in 2006.

The one thing that really sticks out while I was growing up was listening to CBSRMT.. there are still a half dozen ep's that I remember listening to way back then while I was with my grandparents that lived in the middle of nowhere. The night time was so black while listening to the radio...

About 4 years ago I found some reel-to-reels that I packed away and had some RMT ep's on them. Ever since then I've been searching for new ep's. My collection has grown to about 900, but, I still haven't found the ones I remember... one day.

Howdy folks,

I am new to this group, but have been an OTR hobbyist for just over 4 years now (since Feb '00). I have recently taken a liking to CBSRMT after listening to several episodes on a friend's recommendation and after buying Martin Grams' excellent book. I am downloading this week's episode now and plan on listening tonight and posting my thoughts.

You guys have a good thing going here. I hope I can just jumop right in.

Howdy again Vince and all,

You see on the side of my messages "joined group 4/08/04", which I did, but I didn't actually post anything until today as I was at work when I joined back on April 8th and I have been too busy to really review the site until now. I mentioned I was downloading this weeks episode because it was easier to download it than to search through my OTR collection looking for it.

I obtained the entire CBSRMT set through a trade a while back and then just recently bought Martin Grams' book to add to my library. I must admit that for the longest time, I didn't consider CBSRMT as "true" OTR because it was in the 70's. I came around and realized that no matter when it originally aired, it is still quality radio drama and should be given a chance. Well, I gave it a chance and was hooked. It is now a part of my regular listening rotation.

Hello all! My name is Kole (short for Nichole) and I'm new to both this forum and Mystery Radio. I've listened to radio dramas like the Star Wars NPR dramatizations and what not. But I only recently even thought about the fact that the classic programs from the golden era of radio might be online. This lead me here, since mystery is by far my favorite genre to read, write, watch and in this case- hear. So, I'm very unfamiliar with RMT but I'm hoping to change that. If anyone can recommend some good episodes to start out with, or send to me, I set up a streamload account under the user name IndieFilmz (same as here to make things easy for me since I forget user names easily). new to this forum, but not to cbsrmt.

i remember (vaguely) the first ads for cbsrmt in people magazine in 74. i didn't listen to it then because (1) it was past my bedtime, and (2) the creaking door scared the crap out of me!

i listened a few times in the later years when i was in college. for some reason, i could get it in my car from a station in rochester, ny, about 1000 miles away!

then, 3 or 4 years ago, i thought i'd look for info about the show to see if i could hear what it sounded like. well, i found a couple on napster, and a guy im'd me and told me about bob cook's old website. i got about 400 shows from there before it went away. wish someone could tell me more about what happened to him. i don't know him, but he sure made my life better these last couple of years!

well, that's enough for now. thanks for letting me reminisce a bit.

i would LOVE to get all of the episodes if that's possible. my streamload account is kkelsey.

Finally -- lets see how this board, streamload, etc works during the trial. I too was an original listner of the CBSRMT and have just gotten my 14yo son listening -- at night while going to sleep as I did. Favorites are the orginal recordings complete with commercials, etc.

Thanks for the spot to start a collection and grow what I have.

I always enjoyed listening to the radio at night. RMT was a constant companion through my university days and through most of my young adult life.

How I remember spinning the dial trying to find something similar when it went off the air.

NPR came somewhat close, but nothing was like late night with RMT.

Thanks to Napster, KaAza, WinMX and others, I was able to access libraries of old time radio shows. Some people were even good enough, a couple of years ago, to set up FTP servers so that others could download the programs directly. Sadly, it seems that a lot of people are selling access to their files these days instead of sharing, like the people here are doing.

I am introducing my daughters to radio listening. I burn CD's for them to listen to when they go on raod trips or when they go to bed and put their headphones on.

Thank you for this forum and for the opportunity to share once again.

Hello all!

I was a fan of CBS RMT from the first night broadcast and continued to listen until the end. Sadly I did not tape any of the programs. :( When preparing for a vacation to Egypt in 2001 I stumbled across recordings of some of the broadcasts through one peer to peer or another and downloaded a half dozen or so. They provided both a much needed touch of home and some wonderful entertainment during our stay in the Land of the Pharoahs. (Have you ever listened to Egyptian radio??!!)

Sadly I have lost both my CDs and my mp3 files and as I prepare for another vacation I am seeking to acquire as many RMT episodes as posible. I have signed up for the free trial of Streamload which I am sure won't be sufficient. Can someone offer a recommended membership level and some files?

Thanks!

I am a new forum member but long time RMT lover!
I found the free RMT files on Streamloader but I haven't gotten anymore files. If I understand all this downloading stuff correctly, I need to pay Streamloader to get the files. Right? My streamloader name is
scarlson33.

I listened to RMT as a child while my mother took me for drives in the country on dark nights. I would sit in the back seat of the 1972 VW Bug and get scared out of my wits! I want to gather these shows, put them on audio CD and give them to my mom for her birthday next February. What do you think? I have 25 episodes already and I just started downloading this afternoon.

THANKS!

Welcome aboard John and scarlson33...

The free account with Streamload is not sufficient to get the programs. You have to pay them for the download bandwidth. Just to make it clear though, this is not buying the programs. Streamload has no idea what you are actually downloading. It is just a dependable file-trading service.

Hi,

I've been a fan of OTR for under a year but only recently found an intense interest after getting an mp3 player and a 160G hd to store them on!

I've downloaded what I can from Kazaa but it is now hit or miss. I think the streamload concept is a superb one. Given sufficient time, I will upload my approx 800 mp3 files into my account for all to benefit from. I look forward to receiving all 1299 cbsrmt episodes. Each new one I hear is better than the last.

Thanks again.
Doug
