Vince,

I took your excel spreadsheet and created an Access Database from it.

The DB will allow you do search and view all episode data on one friendly looking page per episode.

I'm just finishing it, and will be tweaking it for a day or too. When its ready, just pm with your email and I will send it out, and if you or some you know can list it on a server, that would make it all the better.

I was very impressed with the detail and the astronomical amount of time you devoted to compiling the spreadsheet. I'm glad I was able to make it easier for all to use.

I will not give this out to anyone without your permission.

Thanks,

Lou,
Terrific! I'd be glad to host it when you are done. I had long thought that I should normalize the data and create a real database but I just never got around to it. As for the data, I didn't start the spreadsheet so my contributions are mixed among the work of many others.

Learner:

Is this difficult to convert from an Excel spreadsheet? The reason I ask: I have my own Excel spreadsheet that I created that incorporates much of what I put into my listening log.

If I e-mailed this to you, would it be a lot of trouble to convert? Also, would I be able to add to it and update it as I continue to listen?

If this could be done, I'd be forever grateful.

I was replying to an earlier comment by ISP85 who was working on the conversion of the Excel spreadsheet.

I would love to be able to see and use such a converted file.

Brian,
I think you meant to address your question to Lou.

All,
As soon as Lou makes the excel to access conversion, I'll be glad to make it available to everyone.

I will finish it up Saturday, Sunday and will send same to Vince so he can post it. I will compile it several ways:
Access 2003
Access 2000
Access 1997

As far as converting an Excel spreadsheet into an Access database:
1. open Access, in File, click new database, take defaults for now.
2. File, Get External Data, Import
3. navigate to the spreadsheet and select it
4. follow the data import wizard

Thats basically it, then you must design, querys, forms etc....

Lou,
Do you have the ability to make the database a runtime version? If not, I may take a swipe at it to make it a self contained application (royalty free).

Very cool. Will it be in a place where everyone can get it, once it's ready?

Looking forward to it...!

Thanks, --Kent :D

Kent,
The DB will definitely be available for everyone and readily available.

Let me know if I can help in any way. Database programming is the majority of what I do. Do you have the developer edition? If not, let me know and I’ll compile it into an install package so that people who don’t have Access can run it as a stand alone program.

Wendell,
Yes, I have access to the developer's edition but if I'm running short of time, I'll take you up on your offer. Thanks!

No problem, I also have an ftp site that I could put it on.

Anyone have an update on the database availability?

Would be a verice accompaniment to my 1400 episodes :D

I have one that I use. It is definately NOT ready for prime time though. If anyone wants a copy, I'll be glad to sent it. You must have MSAccess installed in order to use it. It has no forms or fluff of any kind.
