Hi Mark and welcome aboard. I've sent files to your Streamload account.

I think you're our first board op on the forums that actually worked with the program. That is exciting... I'm in radio myself but I didn't get my full-time start until the year after CBSRMT went off the air.

We would be interested to hear more about what airing the program was like. Did it come on reel? 2 reels per program or a 10" reel with one program? Did the tapes have tones and work on automation or did you manually have to stop the tape for local spots, etc.? Did the tapes have to be returned to the network or were they to be destroyed? Are you still in radio today?

Again, welcome and we look forward to your participation.

Charlie

Welcome Mark.

I, too, am looking forward to learning more about the technical aspects of the broadcasts.

That goes back a LONG way. I ran the programs from 1974 through 1976 on KOCY in Oklahoma City. From what I remember, we did it differently than the CBS affiliates. It was a show for the affiliates, of course, but with a right of refusal clause that made it available for syndication after a certain period of time if the local CBS was not going to pick it up. At KOCY, we already had a "Radio Drama block" that included Serling's "Zero Hour" (which left the air shortly after CBSRMT debuted) and we played several old mainstays of OTR as well. Those older shows were syndicated, I believe, by Mendholson (sp?). We thought it was great that the local CBS affiliate passed on CBSRMT and we picked it up (we were a MUTUAL station).

Technically, I don't know if it was different because we picked it up in syndication, but we played tapes. No tones. We actually stopped the tapes going into stop-sets. I don't remember the tape size exactly.....but I can find out! I have two of the episodes still on reel in storage. I will go over this weekend and get them and let you know the reel size. I think they have their original inserts which I can probably scan and post somewhere. Usually, we had to return the tapes, but many times it just didn't get done (as was often the case with returning shows in radio) and they would put shows like that out for anybody at the station that wanted them. Usually, nobody did. At the time, it was just one more reel of tape. Oh, how I wish I had many more. I remember the box had a big square sticker with the CBSRMT logo on it.

What a great show. I just remembered one of the shows I have is "Cold Storage".....

Thanks for the set....look forward to jumping in and reading the past postings to the forum. Is there a history of this site/forum? I'm curious how the founder got into the show, etc.

Thanks again!

Wow! That is cool!

What is cooler is the fact that you have some episodes on the original tape. I'd love to get those encoded!

As far as reading the stories, most of them are in the "Welcome" forum.

Glad to have you aboard.

Mark,

Thanks for posting that. Great reading.

I am the founder of the site and if you want to know how I got into CBSRMT, just click on the "My CBSRMT Page" link in my signature below.

As far as a history of the forums, it's all here. We don't delete posts. This forum started in November of 2002 and you can see that we have amassed a group of fans from all over and people continue to join daily.

Hearing about your airing the program is exciting - especially as I type this sitting at the board at the station I work at now. smile.gif http://www.wqdy.fm
