hi,
I am interested, it sounds like a good show, but I have no knowledge of how to do mediamax, and I don't know if my computer has the capabilities (I have lots of trouble with them). I have a laptop and a regular one, so I'm sure the regular one would be better.......as you can probably tell I'm lost. I know there are others on here who have asked about it and figured it out. Is it pretty easy?

Hi Vicky,
MediaMax is easy. If your computer is better than a 486 (about a 1994 model) it is capable. You do not need a Pentium 4 or Windows XP. Just create an account at MediaMax and let me know the username, not the password. I'll send the files to your account. You will log in, go to "my account" and select the "mail" tab. The files will be there. Click the green arrows to download files to your computer. The computer will play them with your default mp3 player. If you have trouble let me know.
Best,
Wade

Hi Wade,
I guess I'm good to go on this. Username is msvickjan. If I wanted new mystery theater recordings (I have literally played mine to death almost, ha ha) will I have to pay and if so do you have to belong for a set amount of time or can you stop paying the fee at any time? Thanks for your help.

Vicki,
I sent the Nightfall files this morning. You get 1 gigabyte of free downloading per month. That is more than enough for all the Nightfall files as they're about 700 MB, 1 CDs worth. As for the Mystery Theatre, if you are listening as you download you may not need to purchase an upgrade account. You would do that if you want to download hundreds at a time. If you choose to do that you can subscribe for a month, maybe two months and then go back to the "free" account. If you are using dial-up Internet then you will have your hands full with just the 1 GB level, but if you have DSL or cable Internet then the first "paid" level of MediaMax might be helpful. I have the free account and 128k DSL. This works out OK for me. If you are planning to do massive downloading I would get a good download manager such as "Free Download Manager" or "Get Right." The one in Firefox doesn't do well with multiple simultaneous downloads and several people have reported that MediaMax XL doesn't work well either, but I've never tried it. I'm just going on what others have said about it.

Thanks for the nightfall (refer to email I sent you). If I asked for 1975 of mystery theater, could you send that. I want to give my Dad a sample and see if he likes it, so I would have to burn it to cd. I can do that right? But I understand it is Christmas and you are busy, so I wasn't sure if that takes a lot of time for you or if it something that goes pretty quick. I so appreciate all the time and effort you give to myself and all the others I have seen from the boards that you help. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Vicki
ps: no biggie if you just don't have the time, I am very grateful for the files you sent.

You are welcome, Vicki.
Do you mean all of the 1975 episodes of RMT? If so, it's easier to just send all the episodes and you can download only the ones you want. You can do them one at a time. Yes, these can be recorded onto CDs and that is the easiest way to store them and deal with them, at least for me.
It doesn't take too much time to send something once it's uploaded to MediaMax. I try to haunt this forum every day just to fill request for shows and answer questions. Kent (Vergergc) used to do much of this by himself but I hope I am providing some relief for him. My wife thinks I spend plenty of time here :D .
I am going to proceed with sending all of the CBSRMT and you can select the ones you want to download and save. There is plenty of room in MediaMax for all of them plus the Nightfall series.
Let me know how it goes.
Merry Christmas,
Wade

Hope you had a great Christmas and also congratulations!
I tried to burn a sampler I put together twice and neither cd would play so I don't know what I did wrong. My burning thing is old, could that be it? (Nero, several years old, although I would think it could do mp3's.)
I haven't had time to listen to an episode of Nightfall completely, but listened to beginning to see if it worked, sounds a little like Orson Welles introducing (?)....
Well, also I would like to say hello to your Dad from a Dementite (?) I think that was the name, and to beware of roly poly fishheads and pencil neck geeks, ha ha.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!

Hi Vicki,
Thank you, we certainly did and thank you.
How did you try to play the CDs that you made? Did you try to play them on your computer or on a CD player? Mp3 discs will only play on an mp3 compatible device, which includes your computer or mp3 CD players. Old CD burners and old versions of Nero should have no trouble if they are still working correctly. Mine are old and work fine. Did it fail to write to the disc or are you just having trouble decoding it afterwards?
For more information on the Nightfall series do a search for "Nightfall 25." This will answer lots of questions about production, cast, etc.
I'll pass your greetings along to my dad. I'll be getting together with him this weekend to celebrate Christmas.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

Hi,
I tried them on an mp3 compatible cd player.
The disc appeared to have been burned, but would not play. My son did the data thing you suggested, we are not sure what went wrong exactly.
Thanks for all your help and have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Wade,
Hope you have been well. I have been too busy to try this cd again. So, when I play any of the episodes they play on media player. I have nero as a burner. When you have time could you maybe give me a step by step on getting it on to the cd? As I said before, we did it on data and it just would not play, there was nothing on the disc. (but it appeared to be burned). Any help would be great.
Thanks again and again,
Vicki
you can email me if you want, if that kind of post is not so great on here, whichever is best.
thankyou!

Vicki,
I'm wondering if the data really never made it onto the disc, or if it's there but for some reason your player isn't reading it. You might try to explore the disc in another computer that does a good job at reading CD-Rs and see if there is anything on that disc. Have your boys ever burned CDs on that recorder which played back in other CD players? It is possible that your CD-R drive has failed. That's all I can think of.
I told my dad what you said about "Roly Poly Fish Heads" and "Pencil Neck Geeks" and he promptly got the records out and played those for me, along with "Boot To The Head" and "Earache My Eye."

Wade Your Dad sounds like a fun guy! I have a really broad sense of humor with an appreciation for the weird, warped, and the so stupid its funny.
There's an old skit on MadTV that breaks me up every time...a cop finds out that his new partner is a can of creamed corn. The senseless absurdity makes me laugh. But anyway, I was looking at the cd and maybe I was wrong, it did not burn onto the disc afterall. I am thinking I may have to just pay this guy my husband works with to burn them for me . My boys have done music but not data before.
I was looking thru the episodes and just wondering what it means when some say "Need Replacement" or something. Thank you for your help, and I so worry you are tired of me bothering you--but Mystery Theater is so great I am glad this forum is here with wonderful people helping those who cherish it.
Thanks again,
Vicki

HI Wade. I too enjoy this great radio show. CBC Radio (in Canada) produced a number of very good radio shows in the 70's and 80's including Nightfall and Vanishing Point.
For those who might be interested in sampling a few select Nightfall shows, they can also be found at the Internet Archive http://www.archive.org/details/NightfallOTRKIBM
There is also a good Nightfall fan website with loads of info on the show here: http://www.nightfall-25.com/
BTW, Wade: Do you happen to have the complete set for Vanishing Point? I have a few missing episodes that need to be filled.

Joe,
Thanks for posting that link to Nightfall on archive.org. Much of my OTR came from archive.org but somehow I missed their Nightfall page. I regularly use the Nightfall-25 site.
I don't have any of the Vanishing Point shows. I was not aware of this series.
Vicki, the shows that are labeled as NEEDS REPLACED are either poor sound quality or are incomplete, i.e. they need to be replaced.
Best to you both,
Wade

Hi Wade:
Vanishing Point is an excellent companion piece to Nightfall (many of the same writers and actors). In some ways, the episodes are much "darker". Depending on which guide you reference there were between 69-75 official episodes.
Once I get going with this whole MediaMax thing, if you'd like I can send the episodes that I do have to you.

Hi Wade:
I have sent you a MediaMax message with the Vanishing Point episodes attached (my first attempt)!
The files are courtesy of "catfreak" over at OTR-TNT who was kind enough to send the entire collection (80 eps).

Hi Wade,
I thought I would tell you that when my son tried to burn another music cd recently, the computer gave some message about "technical difficulties". My older son said the processor is fried or deleted or something, so maybe you were right about the cd drive failing. I figured you and everyone else have been on the edge of your seats with curiosity......LOL. So I don't when I will ever get at least Nightfall on cd, and if Vanishing Point is good I might like to have it too. But anyway, in the meantime I was just wondering if on the mediamax account I should transfer all these files out of "mail" into the file manager thing, or if it matters one way or the other. Just wanted to make sure the mail doesn't get deleted automatically after a certain amount of time or something.
Thank You,
Vicki

Welcome Vicki,
Nothing gets deleted. I joined in the Fall of 2004 (Streamload back then), and still have everything that was sent to me. But, I do a transfer to have really "vital" stuff in more than one place on MediaMax.
Cheers!

How about a two or three sentence summation of what this series is like?

While CBS Mystery Theatre would be primarily considered a mystery series, Nightfall would primarily be considered a horror series. It is labeled by many as "Radio's Most Terrifying Series." It was so terrifying, in fact, that the show prompted complaints from listeners in many markets and the show was taken off the air. The CBC series ran from July 1980 until June of 1983 and was presented in The States by NPR.
