I just destroyed our 27" TV that was in my study. While connecting a new VCR, it slid out of its cabinet and the piece that hooks up to the cable ripped out of the back.
Many expletives flowed from my mouth for the tender ears of my children to behold.
That's going to cost me. If anybody knows anything about TV repair, please speak up. I may try to replace the module if it is not too expensive.

Brian,
My condolensces. I can't count the number of times I've done things like that. Unfortunately, I can't offer any tv repair help but I'm right here for the moral support! ;)

Oh boy... sorry to hear about that Brian. I've screwed up my share of things too. We recently lost a TV that was too young to die. It had a VCR built in and the ejection mechanism developed problems and screwed up the whole thing. (Don't ever buy a TV with a VCR or DVD built in or you will eventually be sorry). And, my parents moved a few years ago and dropped a brand new large television pretty much ending its life shortly after they purchased it.
It happens, unfortunately. Most TV's are no longer made to be repaired.

That's a total bummer, Brian! I'm guessing it's one of those things nobody knows how to fix and would cost more than getting a new one. :(
We had a little episode at my parent's house when my 4 1/2 year old was staying there recently. He got up first and decided to try and find "the Disney channel" on his own. He grabbed their VCR remote instead of their TV one and proceeded to press the perfect combo of keys to blow the VCR's mind into an irrepairable state. My dad called the 800# to see if there were any remedies and they told him that it's common for people to blow their VCR's minds by rolling over on the remote after falling asleep. Ugh, what kind of garbage are they producing that is so easy to wreck with the push of a few buttons???!!!

I put the TV in the garage for the winter. When it's warm again, I'll find the replacement board online or from a TV boneyard and replace it.
My son is grounded from his television in his room, so I took it and put it in my study.

That's a good replacement. Hope when it warms up there are easy fix-it options that you can do. Hey, maybe you'll find a new hobby fixing tv's that have met similar fates. ;)

Old video games used to damage old TVs. I don't think that is the case anymore.
I relegated the Zenith to the garage until Spring. I'll get a board and put it in there then. I can't bear to part with it. It's a good set.
When I left home, my parents gave me their old Zenith console which at that time was 10 years old. It proudly proclaimed on the front that it was SOLID STATE (no tubes). I moved that set all over the state of Ohio and the cabinet finally gave out before the workings.
You can't go wrong with Zenith, even if they're made in Mexico now.

We had a Zenith when I was a kid and it was amazingly reliable. The on/off switch finally failed after years and years of service. I bet the thing would still be going if it had a remote control to save on the wear and tear.

D'OH!
I usually listen to radio or RMT instead of watching TV anyway, unless football is on.

i don't think i have a favorite tv show any more.
nothing i HAVE to watch. the last thing i video taped was a rodeo to watch when grampa comes over for cowboy night. he used to own horses and ride in rodeos. my children think he's pretty cool. they can't wait for the quick-draw contests. we tried beef jerky last time. not a big hit.

Cowboy night sounds fun. Sounds like a neat Grampa to have. Maybe they didn't like the beef jerky, but I bet they'll always remember trying it!
