I was a little sympathetic when the northeast lost power on Thursday afternoon. I can imagine what a big city Like New York or Toronto would be like without power and would not want to be there during that time. They seem to be coming through it ok.
I have to explain why I say a little Sympathetic. On July 22, straightline winds tore through Memphis at 6:45 am at speeds close to 100 miles per hour. The width of this storm stretched for miles and threw very large , very old trees all over the place. Many trees landed in the middle of peoples houses, many were totaly uprooted and many of them landed on power lines amd power poles. Hundreds of thousands of us in Memphis were left without power. It took a total of 18 days for us to be retored to total poweragain. Personally, I was without power for 10 days, in Memphis, in July. The city only had 2 fatalities, so we were very lucky.
I can hardly have much sympathy for the people who had to wait "hours"up east for their power to be restored, or for the few restaurants who lost a little food. My refridgerator and freezer were only that empty once before, when they were new. Multiply by thousands.
Memphis received no news coverage but we were declared a disaster area by Washington and are going to get some help.

Just had to spill my beans on how I felt to let you all know what we've been through. Glad to be back online too.

We escaped the power outage here in Maine. There is a nuke plant just across the border in New Brunswick and that is where we get our power.

There was an ice storm here in 1998 though and it was days before it was back on that time.

Ethel,
I didn't see this post previously but I have to admit, as awful as your situation must have been, I didn't hear a thing about it in the news we receive. I can't imagine what it must have been like.
