Hello all,
If some generous person still has a copy of the Orson Welles broadcast, I sure would love to hear it. I'm 50 years old and yet still have never heard this landmark in radio.
My Streamload account is: THenry
(That's a capital T and a capital H---all else lowercase).
Many thanks!

Vince, you're a prince!
Thank you very much for the upload. I just burned it to disk and am ready to retire, listening to something I've always wanted to hear. Since boyhood, I've always been a fan of Wells and Welles, so this will be a real treat.
Thanks again!

Thomas,
You're quite welcome. I had never heard the program until just a few months ago. I could certainly see how people who tuned in late would have been fooled into thinking it was a real broadcast.

Well, it's 24 hours later and I've listened to it twice now!
Yes, this is a humdinger, and everything I had imagined it to be. As I mentioned earlier, this is something I've wanted to hear for a long, long time. For those of you who might be new to Welles' production, here are a couple tidbits:
1. This radio play was written by Howard Koch. You might remember a trivial little movie screenplay he also wrote---Casablanca.
2. Koch also wrote a book about the the Welles' production, called _The Panic Broadcast_. If you can find it, grab it. He gives the complete script, but more importantly, it's filled with newspaper articles and photos on the aftermath. It's amazing just how many thousands of people listened, were fooled and started to evacuate New Jersey. One woman was even stopped at the last moment from drinking poison after listening to just a bit of the show!
Actually, it doesn't say much for education and critical thinking. At the start of the show the news reporters indicate there have been flashes detected on Mars. Ten minutes later, the Martians have landed in Princeton. And ten minutes after that 7000 soldiers are wiped out and the Secretary of the Interior is on the air. Whoa! I can't even get to the local shopping center across town in ten minutes!

Thomas,
I find it interesting to think of the broadcast in historical perspective. The concept of martians and the assumption that they had superhuman capabilities as well as advanced technologies was probably enough to send anyone into a tizzy. I think our perspectives, with the moon landings, the Hubble telescope and the Mars landers have dismissed some of the fears we might otherwise have.
