Hey folks,
Here's something neat to keep you in touch every day with new activity here on the forums!
Download a free little program called Feedreader at http://www.feedreader.com
It's a really small program that does not use a lot of resources or spyware or any of that kind of junk. You just download, and run it!
When it is on your screen, click on "New Feed" and a box pop's up.
Insert this URL: http://www.iamoka.com/cbsrmt/forum/rdf.php into the box. That's it, you're done. If other sites you frequent offer XML feeds, you can also input their URL's.
Then, when a new post is made on these forums, a little box will pop up for a few seconds telling you that there is a new post and showing you the topic. You can click on it or ignore it.
I have been using this for a long time to keep tabs on other sites and I am pleased to have been able to finally install the necessary scripts on these forums to make it work.

Here's more stuff that I've added.
A new page to lead people to the forums is at: http://www.iamoka.com/otrforum/
The purpose of this page is to make it easier for people to find this site through search engines so the page has been made very friendly to that sort of thing. Seach engines generally do not index .php pages (like the forums).
On the new page, you will notice the latest topics and posts. This function is available in custom formats for those of you that have a web page and would like this content on your own page. I can help you do that. That remains different than the XML feed discussed above which sends content to your desktop.
So, now we can syndicate the content of the forums to your computer, or to another web page/site.
Let me know if you have questions about this.

Charlie, this is great!
I am wondering for purposes for of linking to other forums in this manner, how do you select the appropriate URL. I assume it would have to be the actual link to the posting of data content. But it looks like you further descriminate the url you input.
For example the page I am on has the following url: http://www.iamoka.com/cbsrmt/forum/posting.php?mode=reply...etc
But the URL that allows me to view any changes on your forum is: http://www.iamoka.com/cbsrmt/forum/rdf.php
In general. How do you select the particular page to reference?
Thanks in advance,
John

The only URL that you would input into the RSS aggregator is the rdf.php page which is an XML feed from the site. No other URL would do anything.
You mention other forums ... you would only be able to use that with a forum that provided an XML feed. That is a custom thing on this site and most forum sites are probably not doing that.

smile.gif Thanks for the information. I am glad that you go to the trouble. It makes it quite convenient to keep up with posts! I hope that this feature is not being overlooked by any of the regulars in the group. I am sure folks who weren't aware of it would kick themselves if they knew the power of this application.

Charlie, this would be great for me as well -- if I could only get it working. Thanks for making it possible to use this program.
My issue is that when I create a new feed via the new feed wizard - I simply place this URL: http://www.iamoka.com/cbsrmt/forum/rdf.php
And it tells me Not Found.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Joe,
Before you (and a lot of other new folks) were a member, this forum was hosted on one of my personal web sites (iamoka.com) and so, this information is old.
The present URL of the XML feed is http://www.cbsrmt.info/forum/rss.php
You will see two orange buttons on the main page of the forums. One says XML and the other RSS. The URL those point to is the feed.

I wanted to say thank you for the updated information. The FeedReader is working very well and this will certainly help me keep up with the latest!

I have put feedreader on my computer and it is working.
My question is when do new posts go away from the feed reader list? I clicked through the new posts and they still show up on feed reader. Is there a limit to how many posts are posted?
Just wondering how this works.
Thanks,
Sonya

I think that I set that here on the feed. I am not sure what you are asking exactly but it wil always show the last number of posts similar to the main page of the site at http://www.cbsrmt.info

Is anyone else having Feedreader problems?
I can't seem to get new posts now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the newer version of Feedreader. I put the address:
http://www.cbsrmt.info/forum/rss.php
in where I put it in before, but no luck.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sonya

This is due to the software upgrade that I did on the forums last week. I am still having some problems. Some of these things are add-ons that I have done to the forums and they seem to have some problems on this latest version of the software.

I just tried Feed Reader again, but no luck!
http://www.cbsrmt.info/forum/rss.php was the address I entered and that doesn't work. Is there a different address I should try?
Thanks!

Due to a recent software upgrade, some of the add-on things are not working. I will post when I get them working again. I have not had time to devote to this lately. :(

I'm not able to tell when there are new posts on the board. I have to look at the date.
Been out of pocket for a few days. Had some virus issues and my ISP got tired of me sending out thousands of advertisements for male enhancements.

Brian,
The "View posts since your last visit" does not work for you?

after reinstalling XP on my home machine i cranked the security up to try to prevent a similar virus attack and i experienced the same thing here. it's a cookie issue...
i turned the security down again, but i suspect there is a way to allow specify what sites you'll accept cookies from.
not a perfect solution, but it's a start
cheers

No. the view posts since last visit does not work on my home computer. It works at work.
I, too, experienced a virus attack and my ISP cut me off for two days until I got it under control. I had to do something regarding stored configuration that lets you reconfigure your computer to a certain date. I have not re-enabled that yet. Hopefully, with the virus gone, things will get back to normal.

Ok. Well, that is obviously a local computer issue. I wish I knew how to tell you what to do there but it sounds like a mess. :(
